About the Sidekick
At 1.3 pounds and small enough to be easily packed, the Sidekick converts your ball head into a gimbal head in seconds.
Simply slide the Sidekick into the quick-release of your ball head. The Sidekick's elevated tilt mechanism and side-mounted quick release allow the lens to rotate around its center of gravity. This provides the same action and ease of use found in the original Wimberley Head at greatly reduced size, weight, and cost. Remove the Sidekick and your ball head is ready to use with smaller lenses.
Ball Head Prerequisites
1- Your ball head must be able to hold the weight of your lens without creeping or sliping.
2- Your ball head must have an Arca-Swiss style quick-release clamp (e.g. Arca-Swiss, Kirk, Really Right Stuff, Markins, Acra-Tech, Foba, Studioball)
Note: Most Bogen/Manfrotto ball heads are not compatible. Bogen-Manfrotto ball head details
3- Your ball head must have a panning base with a separate knob that can be locked indepentantly of the ball and socket joint.
4- Lever-Clamp Warning!
We recommend using a twist-knob quick-release clamp with the Sidekick. If your ball head has a lever-activated clamp (such as those made by Really Right Stuff), you must add the AK-100 Adapter Plate to the Sidekick to ensure a secure connection.
Lens Prerequisites
1- Your lens must have a rotation collar.
2- Your lens must have an Arca-Swiss style quick-release plate or a Lens Replacement Foot with an integrated Arca-Swiss style dovetail.
